FORGE

Autumn Exhibition 2026 | Open Studio

This exhibition brings together a selection of my major paintings created since moving into my new studio in Sheffield in 2025, alongside some earlier works.

Forge is a particular response to the industrial surroundings of my studio, an area with a history of steelmaking and hard physical labour. Its expressive brushstrokes, steam-like atmosphere and distinctive colour palette reflect my impressions of the place and its past.

Other paintings, including In Bloom, Whisper of Seasons and Sleeping in the Forest, continue my exploration of misty veils, light and atmosphere, also present in my earlier Faraway Land series. Here, colour, space and feeling take on a life of their own, without suggesting a particular subject.

A Passing Moment reflects the fleeting, often unnoticed experiences of everyday life: the moment just after waking, before conscious thoughts begin; a sudden feeling of joy without an obvious reason; or an unexpected sense of familiarity that we cannot quite explain.

Summer Carnival, by contrast, is a celebration of summer's energy — brilliant light, heat, movement and the cheerful, exuberant feelings of the season.

Together, the paintings reflect different moments in my practice, from the energy of my industrial surroundings to fleeting emotions and remembered landscapes. While landscape, flowers and figurative subjects occasionally find their way into my work, abstraction remains at the heart of my painting — an open space for exploring colour, light, atmosphere and feeling.

The exhibition was held at my Sheffield studio on 10–11 October 2026. Paintings remain available to view by appointment. Please get in touch for enquiries or to arrange a visit.
